Capital Area Woodworkers began in 1988 as an organization of people interested in all phases of woodworking. We are a group of beginning and experienced woodworkers, bound together by four goals.
To facilitate communication and cooperation among area woodworkers.
To provide sources of information, materials, equipment and facilities.
To provide educational opportunities for those seeking to improve their skills.
To provide voluntary public service to the community.
Our monthly meetings teach us about varied subjects. Meetings are a chance to socialize, pick up tips from other members or maybe just discuss projects you’re working on currently. Members receive a monthly newsletter with news of meetings and club events. Other events include an “Open Shop” held every month and sponsored by one or more of the members. The Open Shop provides a chance to see tools in operation and to learn special techniques and some times, hands on experience. In addition the Club usually sponsors several field trips to saw mills and equipment makers for example. We welcome membership by all woodworkers, regardless of what they build, their level of skill, style of work, their profession. Our goal is to help each of our members to grow at their own pace, from whatever level of skill and accomplishment they begin with. Simply put, we want each of our members to become the best woodworker they are capable of, and to share their excitement with each other.
